BANGLADESH VS DR. MUHAMMAD YUNUS

Lt. Col. Abu Yousuf Zobayer Ullah

As a residual impact of the last racist regime, Bangladesh is at present passing through a critical period of political uncertainty. The situation is unique as Dr. Yunus is in power, but many Bangladesh Awami League sympathizers are still available in our statecraft. Professor Dr. Yunus, an old timer of 84 years, how long he can hold his patience and impetus in his drive to rebuild and secure our sovereignty is an anxious speculation.

The people of Bangladesh are fortunate to survive for the second time and earn true freedom on 5th August 24. Our country was geo-politically ready to accept the fate of Sikkim or Hyderabad due to thoughtless, single-tracked party allegiance. Our pseudo-democracy allows someone to remain in power till their death, so the only requirement is to go into power; the rest depends on how the individual continues there. This pseudo-democracy, which gradually turns into fascism, is the root cause of perennial political upheaval between the party in power and the party outside.

The last fifteen years were a long enough time for hawkish India to frame Bangladesh in a civil war situation and pump in the Indian army to occupy Bangladesh under the cover of some of his global allies. Indira Gandhi failed in 1971 due to SK Mujibur Rahman’s decision to take back the Indian army from our land. Considering the recent freedom fight experience and highly spirited public sentiment at that time, Indira Gandhi had to take back her force.

However, God’s pronouncement was the same this time, when Awami League reached the zenith of confidence that no problem is a problem as long as they remain in power and have a great ally like India. People and students raised their voices unanimously and decided to sacrifice their lives to rescue our hard-earned sovereignty. India’s well-orchestrated plan suffered a severe blow; Awami League as a political party evaporated from the political arena of Bangladesh, the minimum for the next fifty years. The people of Bangladesh, being third-world citizens, have taken a first-world decision by putting a novelette as the chief adviser of an interim government. Let us hope and pray that Dr. Muhammad Yunus successfully leads our nation toward the vision that our previous generation dreamt of during the liberation war. We, from the Bangladesh Oikyo party https://www.facebook.com/share/p/15rz7GYTDi/ several times attempted to communicate our mission and vision to the party in power, but unfortunately, all attempts were on deaf ears. We could have averted our ongoing crisis had they listened to our timely yearning.

We, the present generation of Bangladesh, have to realize from the bottom of our hearts that if Dr. Muhammad Yunus fails in performing his responsibility, we will invariably fail to grasp our hard-earned sovereignty, and Bangladesh will involuntarily be a failed state for foreign powers to play their game according to their choice. The present caretaker government may use examples from Malaysia or Singapore from history and contemplate along that line.

We must realize that the creator has given us a bonus period to protect and secure our country from foreign intervention and have a new generation of young thinkers and visionaries yielding the ropes. The decision taken by the Chief of Army Staff at the most critical time has given us a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity;” any reverse decision could bring our country to a situation like Syria. Gen Waker’s decision at that critical juncture was under compulsion or intention or part of a bigger game plan that would get exposed over the period in the future. Unlike Pakistan or Egypt, we hope to see a happy ending to our ongoing crisis. If we want our country back to ourselves and develop as a 1st world country, we have no alternative but to support Dr. Mohammad Yunus; this should be clear to us all.
